| "White
on black, White on white, Echoed voices bouncing
off the buildings around..." This is my
place for all things Joy Division. "This is
the way, step inside." Use the menu bar to
begin your exploration into the light and into
the darkness of inexpressible love and hate. |

| "We
haven't got a message really; the lyrics are open
to interpretation. They're multidimensional. You
can read into them whatever you like. Obviously
they're important to the band." Ian
Curtis |

| "The
experience of being Joy Division was really funny
and up, and the whole thing's been coloured by
Ian. But we weren't a deep band, which no one
will ever see. No records will show that; no
films, videos, or anything will ever show that.
We used to have a right laugh." Bernard
Sumner |

| "He
killed himself on Saturday night. I couldn't
believe it. He must have been a pretty good
actor. We didn't have a bleeding clue what was
going on. You tried to help him with your limited
experience and you did what you could, but as
soon as you left him he went back, you know? He
wasn't on any plane. He should have been on a
bleeding plane, the bastard. It's just really
sad. I still feel angry to this day; because the
whole thing that he wanted, the thing that he
groomed you for, was success." Peter
Hook |

| "He
told us about cutting into the Bible, but he
talked about it as though he had some strange
religious experience, where I'd say he just got
blind drunk and cut himself up. The way he told
it, it was just one of those stories. It was only
after he took the overdose it turned into a chain
of events. We were concerned, but no one knew
what to do because we thought he was sorting it
out." Stephen Morris |

When I decided to take a break from maintaining The Old Echoes, I didn't think it would be four years! In that time, I've married, had two kids, written a novel, found an agent, built a house and generally tried to keep my thing together. I'll be weeding out the dead links in the next few days. So on with my slothy update!
Mr. Ed Webb-Ingall has sent me some interesting e-mail regarding a new Joy Division project. To assist him, I'll include his message here:
I am working on the pre production of what is set to be very
exciting and groundbreaking documentary on which we would love
your input. Let me tell you a bit about the project - The
Documentary will be directed by Grant Gee and written by Jon Savage, all the
original band members are signed up as well as all the key protagonists from the
band's story including Peter Saville, Tony Wilson, etc.
The documentary is for worldwide distribution; TV, Video and theatrical release
For now we are interested in the following:
Your archives - we know how precious these are to you and
understand just how priceless they are - what we would love is a
list of everything you have and what you will allow us to take
footage of?
Your knowledge - in particular do you know of any recording - audio
and or video of the band talking.
Also back in 1979-1980 the NME letters page had a 'vigorous debate'
going on as to whether JD were Nazis (or not). We would love to see
this do you know anyone who was involved in this?
Thanks so much - i appreciate any help or assistance you can offer
on what is set to be a very exciting project.
Click HERE to contact Brown Owl Films. They seem to have a Depeche Mode film in the works as well. And, how now, Brown Owl, JD were not Nazis ...
